Which helmet standard do you need?

Drivers under 15

In FIA karting, drivers under 15 must use a helmet to the Snell-FIA CM standard (CMR2016 or CMS2016), such as the Bell KC7 CMR. These helmets are designed to be light to limit the load on a young driver's neck. Following a rule change in June 2026, drivers under 15 with a head circumference of 60 cm or more may use other approved standards if the helmet weighs no more than 1,500 g.

Drivers aged 15 and over

From 15, the FIA accepts specific karting helmets (Snell K and FIA 8878-2024), Snell-certified racing helmets and FIA 8859 or FIA 8860 helmets. Older standards have expiry dates, so always check the label and the rules of your championship. The official lists are published on fiakarting.com.

Finding the right size

Measure your head circumference just above the eyebrows and compare it with the brand's size chart. A helmet should fit snugly without pressure points.
