FIA 8877-2022 for karting shoes

Since 1 January 2025, karting shoes approved to FIA 8877-2022 are mandatory in FIA championships, cups and trophies and in all karting competitions on the FIA International Sporting Calendar. Approved models in this collection include the Sparco K-Prime and K-Rapid and the Alpinestars Tech-1 KX V3. The official list is published on fiakarting.com; national championships can apply their own rules.

How to choose karting shoes

Karting shoes have a thin, flexible sole for precise pedal feel and a narrow shape that fits the pedal area of a kart. A higher cut adds ankle support, and a secure lacing or strap system keeps the shoe in place. For wet sessions, the Sparco K-Pole Water Proof is available. Compare your foot length with the brand's size chart.

Complete your kit

Combine your shoes with karting gloves and a karting suit. For young drivers, see Karting Junior.

FAQ

Can I use normal sneakers for karting?

For rental karting this is often allowed, but a thin-soled karting shoe gives better pedal feel. For FIA and international competitions, FIA 8877-2022 shoes are mandatory.

Are karting shoes the same as car racing shoes?

No. FIA 8877-2022 is the specific standard for karting shoes, so check the label before racing.
